Being someone who plays in an unusual tuning for most guitarists I suggest learning from the open position down towards the 12th fret. In this I mean start from the open note and go up the fretboard one fret at a time. For example I learned the outline of Open C by mastering the c major scale all over the fretboard in this unusual tuning.
